Fix Activation Mode Issue: Edit Canon EOS 80D with Edius 5/6/7/8

Posted by on Wednesday, 20 April, 2016

I’d like to ask a question:

Every time I open Edius 6, a small windows on the bottom on the right inform me:

The device does not support the current format. Activation the software mode.

I use Canon EOS 80D, I always see those writings if I open a current HD project from Canon EOS 80D or if I create a new HD project (1920×1080). If I use 1440×1080 project from the earlier Canon EOS 60D I don’t see any writing.
Why do I have these writings every time I open Edius with HD settings?

eos 80d Fix Activation Mode Issue: Edit Canon EOS 80D with Edius 5/6/7/8

EDIUS supports various file formats for both import and export. Please see the compatibility matrix PDF for details. When your project settings are not supported by the Hardware/driver EDIUS 6 will switch to software Mode. Is there any way to work on Canon EOS 80D files in Edius?

As Edius claimed some wrappers like MPEG-4 are supported by EDIUS, but as far as we know, it not includes all codecs. From Canon EOS 80D user manual or its product page, you may have known that Canon EOS 80D can shoot full HD (1920×1080) movies to up to 60fps – as well as 50, 25 and 24fps – for 29 minutes and 59 seconds at maximum with H.264 codec MPEG-4.

Generally speaking, first, H.264 codec is not an ideal codec for editing, second, as you mentioned, HD project (1920×1080) project are not friendly with Edius 5/6/7, if you want to edit these H.264 videos with EDIUS 5/6/7 smoothly, you have two choices:

1.Upgrade your Edius to academic/educational version of Edius 7, is about $145, or upgrade to the least Edius 8.

Tip: The price of a new academic version is cheaper than the upgrade. Might be worth a look.

2.You can downsize HD content and convert videos from Canon EOS 80D to EDIUS native supported codec MPG format, and then you can edit Canon EOS 80D files with Edius smoothly.

If you choose the second method, go on reading.

In order to downsize HD content and convert videos from Canon EOS 80D to EDIUS native supported codec MPG format, you need a video converter for help, there are so many video converter on the market, here I would recommended you the cheapest and best one - Pavtube Video Converter, (read the top video converter review), this program is an easy-to-use Video Converter for you, which can help you change Canon EOS 80D videos into a different format like MPG with least quality loss. You should then be able to import the new file into EDIUS 5/6/7/8 with smooth editing without any trouble. Besides Canon, this video converter can also transcode other Canon camera videos and Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, JVC, etc videos to EDIUS.

Download or Purchase ($35) the program and learn the step-by-step guide.

Import and Edit FLV in DaVinci Resolve on Mac

Posted by on Wednesday, 6 April, 2016

Question from reddit:

I am recording video with OBS which saves it as .flv – Davinci Resolve does not appear to like it or accept it on my Mac…What is the best way to convert this to something davinci will use? What format should i convert it too? 1) Must be free. 2) cannot take up too much HD.  3) Quality is important but not that important.

flv to davinci resolve Import and Edit FLV in DaVinci Resolve on Mac

FLV characteristic determine the issues

FLV is a Flash Video container file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player version 6 and newer.

FLV usually contain material encoded with codecs following the Sorenson Spark or VP6 video compression formats. It can hold many different type of audio, video codec such as H.264, H.263, MPEG-4 ASP, MPEG AAC, etc.

FLV may contains information such as duration, width and height, framerate, encryption, metadata… If there are some video, audio or other information that does not one hundred percent compatible with Davinci Resolve, you will easily encounter import issues, freezes or goes super super slow.

Does Handbrake worked?

Someone said Handbrake would be first free option, I have used Handbrake, turning the files into h264 / mp4 and Davinci Resolve seems to hate these. Davinci just freezes or goes super super slow, too.

I did not find an FREE FLV to DaVinci Resolve tool that’s available on to transcode the FLV media files and makes them compatible with Davinci Resolve.

All-in-one Solution

That is to say, it can transcode all the files (absolutely FLV included) into another target format(Davinci Resolve supported QuickTime, ProRes, Avid DNxHD) with high quality.

Besides DaVinci Resolve, this program can help you convert then import FLV video to FCP X/7iMovie, FCE, Avid MC,Premiere Pro/CS 4/CS 5/CS 6, Pinnacle Studio, QuickTime, iTunes and other editing applications.
