What if After Effects CS6 no longer handles MXF footage?

Posted by on Thursday, 24 October, 2013

I recently migrated to CS6 from CS5 – I have a project that has several XDCAM 50 exports from Avid to AE — AE keeps telling me that it won’t support those files anymore. I get After Effects error:file’328)0773_01.mxf’ cannot be imported – this ‘.mxf’ file is damaged or unsupported.

Why does this happens? In fact, MXF format is better for viewing than for editing. You may try to install the MXF plug-in. If the plug-in still can’t help you load MXF files to Adobe directly, your computer may have something wrong with the MXF format, then how toimport MXF footage in AE CS6 for editing smoothly? Y have to transcode to After Effect CS6 preferred format like MOV (AVC) to get it working well with your wonderful footages. To help all users to solve the problem, I show you an easy way in the post.

First, please install a professional Pavtube iMedia Converter for Mac, which can transcode Sony PDW-700 MXF to a editable format by Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects CS6. As far as I know, this MXF to AE Converter is designed to transform all MXF videos. It also allows you convert MXF to any other format as you want for importing into different NLE apps, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, iMovie, Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro 6/7/X, and more. Just download it and follow the workflow using After Effects CS6 with MXF footage on Mac.

How to convert MXF to After Effects CS6 editable format?

Step 1. Get this MXF to AE Converter installed, click top left two icons to load individual videos or the entire folder correspondingly.

Step 3. Adjust output video settings including video size, codec, bitrate, frame rate by clicking “Settings”, all according to your needs. (Optional)

Using the MXF format, video and audio can be wrapped into a single file along with important metadata. Make Sony HDR-CX700V AVCHD compatible with iMovie/FCE

Posted by on Monday, 14 October, 2013

True HD video recording is at your fingertips with the Handycam HDR-CX700V. Full 1920 x 1080 resoultion video plus 12-megapixel still image capture give you the options you need for those special moments. Manual iris, shutter, exposure, and white balance control mean you have shooting flexibility. A 3 touchscreen makes running the camera easy. And a whopping 96GB of internal flash memory will store up to 40 hours of HD footage.

The 1920 x 1080/50p mode records at a very high frame rate in progressive mode, capturing 50 Full HD frames every second for extra-clear results. But for many CX700V users, some problems are coming up: when importing 50p AVCHD to iMovie/FCE from Sony CX700V for editing on Mac OS X, they find neither iMovie or FCE will accept this 50/60p AVCHD format.

As far as I know, AVCHD is not a good editing format for NLE system including iMovie, Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro, etc, especially the non-standard 1080 60p AVCHD format. Then how to import Sony HDR-CX700V 1080/50p videos to iMovie, FCE for editing without any issue? Well, if you make the recordings editable before taking to the program, the incompatible error won’t happen any more. The most favorite format for FCE and iMovie is Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) (*.mov)”, so you can use Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac to achieve the goal in a fast way.

This Mac AVCHD converter can easily convert AVCHD MTS/M2TS/M2T to any other format, like DNxHD for Avid Media Composer, AIC for iMovie/FCE, ProRes for Final Cut Pro, etc with best quality at a fast speed. Besides transcoding, the program also provide you with some simple editing features, such as merging several videos into one file, deinterlacing the original footages, cropping video size, trimming video clips, adding special effects, text/image/video watermarks and add srt/ass/ssa subtitles to output videos, thus it will be on the top of your list. You can follow the below guide to reformat CX700V AVCHD files to Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) for editing in iMovie/FCE.

Import .MTS video from Canon Vixia HF R400 to iMovie/FCE

Posted by on Friday, 11 October, 2013

The VIXIA HF R400 gives you the highest quality recording, whether you’re capturing AVCHD or MP4 files. 1080/60p recording captures twice the amount of information as 60i, and with images captured at a rate of 60 frames per second. 1080/60p recording means that the still images you extract are extremely high quality as well. A new bit rate of 28 Mbps is the highest in the AVCHD standard, and MP4 files are captured at a bit rate of 35 Mbps, so regardless of the format you’re shooting or viewing, image quality is as high as can be.

I just purchased a new camcorder, a Canon Vixia HF R400. Video is very sharp and clean HD – great quality. I teach video production and we purchased 5 of these cameras for beginner students. We use iMovie and FCE in our program. But I find 60p mts in full HD will not work in iMovie (from this from Canon Vixia R400 camera or any other). And also won’t see anything in FCE.

As we know, iMovie/FCE native video format is Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC)(*.mov), if we reformat Canon AVCHD to iMovie/FCE supported video format, we can easily transfer Canon Vixia R400 MTS to iMovie/FCE without any issues. At fires, we have to use a top AVCHD Converter for Mac to do the MTS to AIC conversion.

Here we recommend you Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac – A Top MTS to AIC Converter for Mac to convert Canon Vixia R400 AVCHD MTS video to iMovie, FCE compatible formats. Free Download it and follow the steps to transfer Canon Vixia R400 AVCHD recordings for iMovie or FCE editing.

Step 1. Install and run this MTS to AIC Converter. This professional Canon MTS to Mac Converter can help you convert Canon 1080 50p/60p AVCHD MTS files to rich formats for use on Mac.

Load Sony NEX-FS700 50/60p mts files into Final Cut Pro 7

Posted by on Wednesday, 9 October, 2013

As a high-end camcorder, Sony NEX-FS700 is definitely worth buying: professional design, large-sensor, and high quality recording. FS700 can shoot at up to 960 frames per second and now there are already quite a few cameras out there that can do this. As FS700 records full HD 1080 50/60p MTS/M2TS files in AVCHD format. However, FCP 7 has less compatiblity with AVCHD .mts/.m2ts files, and many users find that the AVCHD format cannot be recognized by FCP 7, for example:

“I am an editor and need to work with some AVCHD files from a Sony fs700; am wondering how can I load them to FCP 7? “

Why this happens just because the codec of AVCHD is not supported by Final Cut Pro 7. So is there any easy solution to avoid the headache “incompatibility importing problem”? Here is a simple tip for you to make Sony FS700 50/60p AVCHD editable in FCP 7.

Some 1080/50 fps AVCHD clips grayed out in L&T window and we were not able to ingest them to FCP 7 until we used third-party encoder to change these 50/60 fps MTS clips to ProRes 422. Here the best choice is Mac Sony AVCHD Converter from Pavtube which is specially designed for Mac users to transcode Sony NEX-FS700 AVCHD mts footages to Apple ProRes 422 for FCP 7.
